Jewish Wedding Ceremonies
In Judaism, marriage is considered as a holy institution. It is regarded as a sacred
bond and a reciprocal fulfillment. A marriage in Judaism is considered to be an inherent good and divine command. It is believed that, the will of the Creator desires that His work may endure. In a Jewish ceremony, this sanctity is reflected in the entire wedding day proceedings, this tone is continued until the consecration under the Chuppah or the wedding canopy takes place.
The Jewish wedding day is like a personal Yom Kippur and the Bride and Groom are known as Kallah and Chosson. During the wedding ceremony, the couple is forgiven for all their past wrongdoings as they are just going to begin a new life together.
The couples in a Jewish wedding have to fast until the ceremony is over. They need to add Yom Kippur confessions to their afternoon prayers. It is also required for them to recite the Book of Psalms, and ask for forgiveness for the wrongdoing of their youth if they have committed knowingly or unknowingly. The couples have to stand under the Chuppah as the destiny of their life is set, and all the past reckonings are erased.
